Started imagining how I would explain the topic to someone else after reading, and a look at xevirotrust gave me more material for that imagined explanation, content that improves my own ability to discuss a topic is content that has actually transferred knowledge rather than just decorating my screen for a few minutes.
So — have been messing about with this thing for something like four months now and it’s basically bookmarked at this point, reckon I’d say something since a mate asked me the other day. Am based in the UK, generally do football and horses, a fiver here and there, for context.
What got me on it was honestly a bit daft — I never could get my head round what an ew return actually was once you get five places instead of three. Basically I’d eyeball it and then be surprised. These days I type the odds in before I place anything, even a straight one-selection punt.
Their single bet calculator is the bit I use most — you drop in stake and odds and it spits out profit and total return with no faffing, fractions or decimals. It also handles the fiddly ones — acca and treble maths, a lucky 15, patents and yankees, which is where I always lose track. If you want a look, it lives at treble odds calculator and it’s free with no account nonsense.
The thing that actually changed how I bet is the more serious extras. They’ve got an implied probability calculator that shows the overround, and a kelly staking tool — I stick to fractional kelly as the full version is terrifying. The dutching one is decent when I’m covering two or three runners.
Not all sunshine though. The interface is a bit basic — zero polish, it’s clearly function over form. Phone-wise it’s fine but the acca grid make you pinch and zoom. There’s no app, it’s a website and that’s it — doesn’t bother me just flagging it.
Anyway. Doesn’t cost anything, no ads shoved in your face, does what it says. If anyone still works out returns on a calculator app, try it — it’s saved me a fair few dumb bets I’d have regretted.
One of the more thoughtful posts I have read recently on this topic, and a stop at tatumsounds added even more weight to that impression, this is genuinely good content that holds its own against far better known sites in the same space without trying to imitate any of them at all which I appreciate.
Once you start reading carefully here it is hard to go back to lower quality alternatives, and a stop at eleanakonstantellos reinforced that ratchet effect, the way good content raises standards is real over time and this site has clearly contributed to raising my expectations for what is possible in writing on the topic generally.
Now saved this in a way that I will actually find again rather than the casual bookmark approach, and a stop at pelixotrustco earned the same careful saving, organising my reading bookmarks so that high quality sources rise to the top is something I should do more of and this site triggered that organisation today.
